She often spoke to me of what a charming, complete gentleman he was. Ultimately, the city honored him and his book with a sculpture of the boy and his dog, outside the Library.Geoffrey Dunbarhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11570635637930689580noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8407679229975998493.post-76308624169945888612017-03-19T14:34:30.761-06:002017-03-19T14:34:30.761-06:00This comment has been removed by the author.Geoffrey Dunbarhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11570635637930689580noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8407679229975998493.post-73044986811562125832016-09-02T00:43:17.520-06:002016-09-02T00:43:17.520-06:00I have a vivid memory of my younger sister standin...I have a vivid memory of my younger sister standing in the kitchen wailing and nearly hysterical, my mother asking what on earth happened? My sister holds out her copy of Where the Red Fern Grows and says "the dogs died!!" My mother hugged her but couldn't quite stifle a laugh at this poor crying child. We recount this story at most family holidays, and make sure every child born into our clan gets his or her copy to read. Box of tissues and consoling hugs at the ready of course.Jennifer Monterohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10003650742439806128noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8407679229975998493.post-68786357036148391302011-07-22T08:23:50.680-06:002011-07-22T08:23:50.680-06:00Well, I cried just reading this.
