Fobbit: a New York Times Notable Book

Shock and awe.
Disbelief and delight.
Thank you, New York Times, for including my book on this year's list of literary dazzlers.

Scanning the list, I see I've only read 5 out of the 100 (all on the fiction list).  Looks like I've got my work cut out for me in the months ahead.

And you?  How many of these have you read?

  1. Congrats David! We have several people who will be getting it from us under the tree courtesy of your writing- thank you!

  2. That's a huge win!

To answer your question, I"ve only read one book on the list: FOBBIT!

(And I just started Flight Behavior which coincidentally is right next to it on the list.)

  6. Congratulations, David, this is great!

Yours is the only book on the list I've read in its entirety. But I'm a short story person who dabbles in novels, and I'm usually a couple of years behind. Beautiful Ruins is on my list; so is Billy Lynn's…, mostly because of your comments on it.

I've read about half of the stories in Dear Life in my travels, and several from the Daiz, plus bits and pieces of Englander and the chapter from Sweet Tooth that was in TNY.

I see from Goodreads that What the Zhang Boys Know is on your to-read list: I just finished it (I have a passing acquaintance with Cliff Garstang) and I hope you enjoy it.

  7. Congratulations! I have read 5 from the fiction list, though many more are on my TBR list including Fobbit. I have read 1 from the non fiction list. I think this is the most perceptive NYT Notable fiction list in several years, so for what it is worth, Fobbit has just leaped to the upper 25% of my TBR list. And, I forget how I learned about your blog, but I have been following it for months now. On my blog I almost exclusively post reviews but if I were to branch out, your blog would be my ideal model.
